Step 10: Becoming A Hero
Listen to this short, 6-minute audio
from RedpoleQ on building a huge life fit for the big screen.
So we talked about chick flicks, but now let’s talk about something even more important…STAR WARS!
I love Star Wars. Great story. So how about your story? Is it as compelling as Star Wars? If you made your life into a movie would I want it to be a three-part trilogy and be disappointed when it’s over because I want more? Would I run out and tell all my friends they’ve got to spend $10 to go see this movie, because it’s incredible?
If not, why not? It’s YOUR LIFE story, so you can make it whatever you want it to be.
Joseph Campbell, an expert in the history of man’s myths and legends found some common threads among stories among all cultures across time. And one is the Hero Story.
A hero is a person who has an experience beyond the realm of the normal person, learns from it, and brings back the knowledge for the good of all. Return of the Jedi, baby!
Luke starts off as a country bumpkin trapped on a dessert planet, and finishes as the most powerful Jedi Knight in the universe. Wow! What a fantastic story.
I know what you’re thinking…if only someone came and destroyed my home, I’d have a chance to be a hero too.
Would you stop that! Luke had the makings of the hero already but it took the destruction of everything that mattered to him to kick him into gear. Is that what you want?
“I’ll do it when I have to,” you think. Your girlfriend leaves you, you get fired, your apartment burns down, you’re living on the street and NOW you want to turn around and be a hero.
Cut that out!
Luke couldn’t break the chains of his strict upbringing. In fact, if he had he might have been able to protect his family. Oh, well. But that’s what I like about other people’s stories. I can learn from them. So can you.
Save yourself the hassle of figuring it all out on your own(thanks, Yoda!).
I’m sure, absolutely sure, that you have dreams and goals. I can be sure about that because you’re reading this. And only someone who had dreams would even think about taking on the challenge of having better relationships with more awesome women.
And to do that, you have to build yourself an awesome life. See, whenever I have a decision to make I ask myself one simple question: Which choice would make a better story?
I’m building the legend and I need fuel. My movie is epic and getting grander every day. So should yours. Be your own hero each and every day of your life. Create the kind of movie that people will be watching and talking about for years and years.
A man is not something you are. A man is something you become.
